The Gin Fizz is a famous New Orleans drink, and this apple-flavored variation is ideal for the silly season. It’s a fun, uncomplicated drink made with our golden apple gin from our own gin distillery in Melbourne and fresh lemon juice, with a hint of fizz and a frothy top for your next backyard pool party!

What’s the Froth?

Have you ever received a drink from a restaurant or bar with the most wonderfully creamy, frothy top? Have you ever pondered how they got it to look like that? The solution is straightforward: an egg white!

Yes, it’s true… putting eggs in shaken beverages has been a custom for almost a century. Why? Because it adds a rich, creamy texture to drinks as well as a silky, frothy top that can’t be achieved any other way!

Making It at Home

The Gin Fizz is one of the most popular egg white drinks, and it’s not just a fun drink to order out, but it’s also super simple to create at home. All you need are a few basic ingredients, a cocktail shaker, and a little muscle… and you’re on your way to a fantastic party cocktail that your guests will love!

Not too sure about the egg? No worries. You may prepare this Apple Gin Fizz in the same way as the original, but without the egg. Of course, the delicious, creamy texture will be lost… but it is what it is. You can’t have everything!

Things You’ll Need — A Quick Pantry Trip

Grab your bottle of Trogin’s Golden Apple Gin from our gin distillery in Melbourne and get started by pouring it out as a base in a shaker, then move on to some fruit juice to add those fruity notes. Go for a fresh one in this regard instead of buying any packaged brand. It would be even nicer if you keep it unfiltered to enjoy the fruit chunks. Also, you can go with a complimenting fruit cider here.

I produced an easy apple simple syrup to give even more apple taste, but standard simple syrup or sugar can also be used. I chose to use lemon flavoured sparkling water instead of ordinary club soda because I had some on hand. But you can again take some liberty here ; )

The egg white is optional, as I wrote above, but if you’re feeling really daring, I definitely encourage it! The recipes goes like this:

  • 2 ounces gin
  • 1 ounce pure pressed apple juice
  • ½ ounce lemon juice
  • ½ ounce simple syrup (I used apple simple syrup)
  • 1 egg white (optional)
  • 1 ounce club soda

How It Goes

Mix thoroughly for at least a few minutes… and then shake some more just to be sure! This will aid in the formation of the froth that is so vital to a gin fizz.

  • Ice should be added to a cocktail shaker.
  • Combine the gin, apple juice, lemon juice, simple syrup, and egg white in a mixing bowl (optional).
  • Shake for at least 30 seconds, or until frothy.
  • Fill a glass halfway with ice and top with club soda.

Make Your Own Apple Syrup!

Take a cup of sugar, a cup of water, and an apple (I used Honeycrisp). In a small saucepan, mix all three ingredients after slicing the apple into thin slices. Bring the mixture to a boil, then remove from heat, cover, and set aside to cool.

Making It Your Own

This is already a rather daring cocktail, but if you’re feeling even more daring, try these interesting twists:

  • Pear juice can be substituted for apple juice.
  • In place of apple simple syrup, use normal simple syrup or 12–1 teaspoon superfine sugar.
  • Leave out the egg white.
  • Call it a Sloe Gin Fizz by replacing sloe gin for ordinary gin (you may want to skip the simple syrup because it’s sweeter).
  • Call it a Diamond Fizz by replacing the club soda with champagne.
  • Call it a Golden Fizz by substituting the egg yolk for the white.
  • Use an entire egg to make it a Royal Fizz.

Things to Keep an Eye on

Use pasteurised eggs or egg whites from a carton to avoid any of the risks connected with raw eggs.

  • Use freshly squeezed apple juice or apple cider.
  • Only use fresh lemon juice for the greatest taste.
  • To generate the foam, aggressively shake your cocktail with ice for at least 30 seconds.
  • Enjoy the cocktail in a large glass to showcase the lovely foam.
  • Enjoy the cocktail in a large glass to showcase the lovely foam.
  • And lastly, this isn’t a cocktail you can create ahead of time, so drink it straight away.

0 Sugar Gin Rickey for the Silly Season 2022!

You’ll love this Gin Rickey if you want something light and refreshing! A classic gin cocktail made with only three ingredients and without any added sugar, it will become a favorite!

It happens every now and then that I learn about a new drink and wonder how I’ve lived without it all my life. That’s how I felt about the Moscow Mule and the Vodka Press… and now I feel exactly the same about this Gin Rickey. What a surprise to find that 3 simple ingredients make such a delicious drink… and that a sugar-free beverage could be so refreshing!? Actually… When I’m out, I’m a big fan of vodka seltzers and zero sugar drinks. But it’s the addition of fresh lime juice that really makes this drink stand out.

For Friday nights at home, girls’ nights out, or weekend days at the pool, this cocktail is perfect. Delicious, simple, and refreshing… exactly what a good cocktail should be!

How It Started?

Gin Rickey was named after Joe Rickey, a Democratic lobbyist residing in Washington, D.C., around the turn of the 20th century. Drinks with no sugar were Rickey’s favorite, and he liked drinking carbonated water infused with bourbon. This recipe eventually replaced the bourbon with gin.

Ingredients

  • Gin — I used 2 ounces of Trogin’s Golden Apple Gin. You will definitely want to use a high-quality gin since gin is one of the few ingredients in this recipe.
  • The lime juice I used is approximately 11.2 ounces, which is the juice of 12 limes. This recipe is best with fresh lime juice.
  • To make your seltzer, you can either use unflavored club soda or your favorite sparkling water flavor. For an extra citrus kick, I used grapefruit sparkling water.
  • Slice the lime in half and use the other half for a garnish!

Let’s Start With the Preparation

  • Prepare a highball glass by filling it with ice.
  • Mix the fresh lime juice with the gin.
  • Garnish with lime wheels and serve with seltzer water.

Things You Can Play With

  • Add fresh lime juice and lemon juice
  • Mix all the ingredients together with ice and strain
  • Garnish with additional citrus slices
  • Add simple syrup or limeade to make it sweeter.
